A cartographer is someone who creates maps. In this quest, you will label maps of different regions in the world. You will create a large map, with country borders included, on which you use symbols and color coding to display physical features (worth up to 40 gold). Don't forget to include a key! All labels should be neatly written in black pen with proper spelling and capitalization.
At the end of the marking period, you will be presented test on the physical and political features of a region. You will earn 1 gold for each location you can label, with correct spelling and capitalization.

Directions For Assembling a Map
Lay out your pieces in the correct locations. You will trim the edges neatly so you can glue your map together. Please check with the Queen if you have questions after you have read through the steps below.
1. Start with the upper left hand corner. Create a straight line down the right hand side of the page by using a ruler. Cut along that line to remove the extra paper.
2. Lap the left page over the right page so the country outlines match up. Using the "dot, dot, not a lot" method of gluing, attach the two pages together.
3. Find the bottom left hand corner. Trim the right hand side according to the directions in Step 1.
4. Lap the left page over the right page, and glue according to the directions from Step 2.
5. Using the method from step one, remove the extra paper along the top of the bottom panel.
6. Lap the bottom panel over the top panel, and glue according to the directions from Step 2.
7. Add your name to your map page.

Resources
To label your map, you may use an atlas first. Remember to check the index in the atlas if you have trouble locating a feature. For any locations that are not in the atlas, you may use your computer for help. The Queen suggests not using Google Maps -- it tends to be difficult to find features that way. Instead, Google "map with (feature)." Look at the results in the images tab.
When creating your own map, keep in mind that you do not need to label your features in order. You should start with rivers, then mountains, and then highlands. Next, finish any other physical features. Make sure you are labeling the features in black pen as you go along. Capitalization and spelling count!
Finally, label your political features. The Queen does not suggest that you label extra locations, as it will make it tougher to study.
